PETA is accusing SeaWorld of keeping five killer whales as slaves. The group is planning to file a federal lawsuit against SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment claiming a violation of the U.S. Constitution's ban on slavery. PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk said, "The 13th Amendment prohibits slavery, and these orcas are, by definition, slaves." In response, SeaWorld calls the lawsuit "baseless and, in many ways, offensive," citing the marine parks' history of rescuing animals and returning them to the wild when rehabilitated.
